What gives a therapist an excuse to make assumptions about a child that they had just met and tells them to their face that they're lying??
I know that she wasn't the easiest child to deal with sometimes, however, she has a big heart, a sharp mind and has dealt with a lot of bad things in her life. You guys saw through all of that, validated her and the experiences that made her the way she was and taught her to accept them, learn from them and move through them to a new life.
To the staff of Cumberland Hospital ...As my granddaughter prepares to leave your facility after 16 months, I want to say Thank You.
Thank You for taking such good care of her and treating her and us as family. Everyone we came in contact with treated us with warmth, kindness and respect.
In just four months, I was so traumatized and everyday since I've had flashbacks.
They relocated to a small town in Maryland. Their extended family still lived here and still came to my facility for their automotive needs.
Shortly after the relocation they were at a local health care facility where they met a woman from Cumberland Hospital. She was very informative and knowledgeable. She helped them through every step to get help for their son.
I was told by therapist Brittany that I was lying about my past to try and get out earlier. She didn't believe that I was recovering, and she told me so. She told me I was getting WORSE.
It put me in so much mental pain, and I was there from May-August.
I am writing this letter because I personally was affected by a child that benefited from this hospital. This young man had been in several different programs without success. His parents were very taxed to say the least. I watched the family struggle for a number of years.
I was an A&B patient at Cumberland hospital. Let me enlighten you about what happens here.
Don’t send your kids here please. The staff will be rude to your children and call them names. The Dr in charge does not even care that this is going on. The staff are not real nurses and the doctor has no clue his staff are incompetent of doing good work. All of the staff from top to bottom have no clue how to take care of children. If they are willing to treat my kids badly, I can only imagine what they do to kids that have mental problems. There is a huge list of things this place can not do. They will try and convince you they can do it, but it is all a lie. They care more about the money than the kids. I have been a manger for 20 years and there is no way I would let my staff get away with what they are allowed to get away with. This place could be much better, if there was someone in charge that care and would hold the staff accountable. Don’t hire bodies hire people who really care about children and there needs.
The first week I came, I had a stomachache and a fever, so naturally, I didn't want to eat. Not because I was starving myself at the time- I was actually beginning to eat before the hospital I was originally at sent me to Virginia all the way from Georgia. Anyways, because of that, they shoved an almost impossibly large N.G. tube down my nose. I kept gagging it out through my mouth and I begged and begged for a smaller one to be inserted and the nurse told me to "suck it up". I was absolutely traumatized, and by the time they were done, I was bleeding. They put HALF A GALLON of ensure into my body. All because I was *actually* sick. It wasn't an excuse.
After he returned home from the Cumberland hospital the family life had improved immensely. They had found ways to help and teach him to function in environment’s he otherwise could not in the past. When they returned to my facility the changes I witnessed were beyond belief.
Please please please do not send your kids here.
Also, Dr.Davidow is a pedophile. He put his hand down my pants the first day I came in, and he's done that to multiple other girls in the unit. I asked for a girl doctor to come in and he refused.
The unique environment had many different approaches to help their child with his complex needs. He had found new opportunities at Cumberland. They understood the unique psychological, social and behavioral challenges that often interfere with successful treatment.
